In June 2026, Beyond Pangaea was honoured to participate in the 8th edition of Jewels Basel, an invitation-only salon held during Art Basel week at the historic Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel, Switzerland. Bringing together a carefully curated selection of independent jewellery ateliers, Haute Joaillerie maisons and contemporary artists, Jewels Basel has established itself as one of Europe’s most intimate destinations for collectors who value exceptional craftsmanship and design.
For Beyond Pangaea, this was more than an exhibition — it was the first opportunity to present our work outside of St. Moritz.
Throughout the two-day salon, we had the privilege of speaking with collectors, jewellers, designers and art enthusiasts from around the world. Many conversations began with curiosity about our unusual forms and gradually evolved into discussions about geology, biology, mathematics and the role of digital technologies in contemporary design.
Digital technologies let designers explore forms that manual processes alone could never produce. Movement, the embedding of complex algorithms and the iterative transformation from two-dimensional illustrations into three-dimensional models are new aspects that enrich traditional artwork techniques.
We wanted our jewellery to feel alive, so we set out to mimic natural processes with digital technology which eventually meant to combine physical laws with random deviations. The use of Artificial Intelligence was a natural fit: as AI works with probabilities it can combine the predictable and the unpredictable, giving our pieces their natural and organic feeling.
That a visitor interpreted our jewellery as the next evolution in digital art — transforming the digital back into the physical — was a perspective we hadn't considered, but we joyfully took it as a compliment.
