In the warm shallow seas that once flooded our ancient continents, ammonites built their spiralling shells chamber by chamber. By shifting gas and water within these chambers, they could hover, rise, and sink at will.

Exposed to light and current, they flourished for over three hundred million years, enjoying an easy life.
